How Long Do Preserved Flowers Last? A Care Guide for Singapore
Preserved flowers last far longer than fresh ones: preserved-rose maker Venus et Fleur says its preserved roses last "a year or more". How long yours last depends mostly on where you keep them: out of direct sun, away from humidity and never in water.

How long do preserved flowers last?
There is no single number, because the same arrangement lasts very differently in a cool, dry room and on a sunny window ledge. Three things shorten their life:
- Sunlight and heat. Direct sun and heat fade the colours.
- Humidity. Damp air can make petals limp or sticky, and can lead to mould. In Singapore this is the main risk.
- Water. Any water or liquid on the petals damages them.
Keep those three away and a preserved arrangement keeps its shape and colour far longer than any fresh bouquet.
Are preserved flowers real?
Yes. Preserved flowers are real flowers. After cutting, the moisture in the flower is removed and usually replaced with a glycerin-based solution, so the petals stay soft and keep their shape and colour.
They are different from dried flowers, which are air-dried and look more muted, and from soap flowers, which are made from soap. Our soap flowers vs preserved flowers page explains that difference.
Do preserved flowers need water?
No. Never water or mist them, and do not add water to the vase. Water is what damages them.
How to care for preserved flowers in Singapore
- Pick a shaded spot. Keep them away from windows and direct light.
- Keep them dry. Not in the kitchen or bathroom, and not where condensation forms. Choose a cool, dry spot with some airflow, and do not seal them in a closed container without air. In a damp room, a dehumidifier or a few silica gel packets nearby help.
- Dust gently. Use a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush. No water, no cleaning sprays.
- Crystal balls too. Crystal ball preserved roses follow the same rules: shade, dry air, no water.
